Piha / Karekare First Responders

Piha First ResponseThese volunteers are here for us 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

They’ve attended our household more than I’d care to count.   They have given pain relief, held our hands and cared for our grandchildren.    They ask for nothing in return.

So when St. John had their Emergency Care Conference “Burning Issues” in Whangarei it’s not surprising that our community wouldn’t tolerate them paying their own expenses.

Piha Karekare First ResponseThe word was put out  – it didn’t take long for their $190 per person registration fees, their accommodation and transport costs we well covered – excellent !

Piha folk may well have their squabbles but we’re all in agreement that these First Responders are worth their weight in gold.

St. Johns provided relief First Responders this weekend while our volunteers are away.

Below from left:  Mark Thomas (also a Piha volunteer Fireman),  Nicola Thomas (also a great dog walker), Bex Walton-Hannah and of course Fiona Anderson.
