Have you seen  this job advertised ?

“$10,000 Waitakere Local Board Contract – Organising Open Studio Arts Tours”

Where was it advertised ?  What happened to Local Jobs for Locals ?  Applications close tomorrow 22nd !

Proposals are invited for  a Waitakere Ranges Local Board $10,000 contract opportunity to design ‘Open Studio Waitakere’  Art Programme, a  one-day programme involving home studio-based artists resident in the Waitākere Local Board area, whereby the studios are open to the public with artists on site to engage actively with visitors.

Proposals are due on or before 22 April 2015 and require a detailed outline of the potential supplier’s specific approach and methodology to providing the services of the development of the OSW programme. Proposals will demonstrate the ability to develop a strong network of relationships with creative communities in the Waitākere Ranges Local Board area and the ability to maintain working relationships with Auckland Council staff.

There are more and more people in the Waitakere Ranges Local Board area getting pretty peeved that the Board is not advertising jobs/contracts to the public at large.

  1. This was a specialised arts project and it was advertised on thebigidea which is where everybody in the arts goes to look for opportunities.

What’s more, the Local Board does not do job/contracting advertising. The managers do that. You have previously been at pains to go on about the difference between governance and management and accused the Local Board or getting involved in management, now you think we should be micromanaging contracts.

Hi Sandra I saw a letter from Council on the Bethells community website specifically directing them to the job. Each community should have received access to that same information and opportunity. As it stands it’s just Bethells who have been informed and it looks like another shoulder tap position for those in the know. There is a large amount of deprivation in parts of our board and high youth unemployment. I’d like to see a fair go for all. The community actively participates in our local gov via R&R and community papers but we’re not getting transparency on public spend. I don’t want to over argue this point on a single job but the situation is recurring .

  2. Penny says:

And just one further point. These jobs are not general council jobs. They are jobs specifically created by OUR Local Board with Waitakere Local Board budgets. The responsibility of the Board is for services, infrastructure and economic well being of the people in Waitakere.

  3. Bobbie says:

Sandra: This job was in the arts fraternity BUT the job itself and skills required is not exclusive to arts::

    Key skills sought:
    Social media and online content
    Strategic planning
    Work programme development
    Marketing and communications
    Relationship management
    Arts/events management track record
Maintainence of working relationships with Auckland Council staff

This job should have been advertised broadly.
