Local News, What's Happening

I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry

LucilleBsmlThe Waitakere Ranges Local Board ‘micro-managers’ want you to volunteer.

They treat volunteers with disdain so that most have retreated to their lives.

Any paid work Council gets done in Piha is given to people outside of our area.  (Local jobs for locals – yea right!)

Now they want  you to turn up and do  work – as a volunteer of course!    Any council staff that turn up will be paid.

Dates:  Sundays 23rd and 30th November
10am til 1pm (wet or fine)
Marine Parade North – look for Council flags
All tools supplied or bring your own gloves, loppers, hand-saws.

When you, Sandra, and the rest of the WRLB start treating local volunteers and our community with some respect and gratitude then, and only then,  will I even consider paying my rates AND doing council’s job.

Beach Valley Road

We have the Beach Valley Road Project – we’ve done this since before this so-called ‘Super City’.   It’s about community, caring about the environment and the people – you could learn a few hints from its longevity and achievement!  left: before

Beach Valley Road AFTER

I am pleased to hear that the funding for volunteer neighbourhood groups like the Beach Valley Road Project has been confirmed until June ’15.  It was all in limbo for a few months.  It’s not a lot of funding – they pay for weed bins and some plants.

There are so many more great outcomes than the environmental changes.   left:  couple of hours later.
