Water testing finished but $$$ available

0 Comments 11 April 2016

Auckland Council’s Water Quality testing has finished

Now it’s time for us to do our bit as property owners.

The summer season testing for Lagoons and Beaches is over for the season.  We’ve had consistent ‘failures’ for Piha Lagoon but, says Council, the level of pollution generally has been ‘down’.

Now it’s time for us to do our bit and we can do that in one of two ways:

  • Apply for Council’s West Coast Lagoon Septic Tank subsidy of $K5 (special conditions apply) or
  • Hopefully from July Council will finance septic system upgrades and we pay it back, with a small interest charge, through our rates over 15 years.

Here are the last results for the year.   They show a shocking ‘spike’ in the Piha Lagoon.  Not the only one for the year.  With the huge amount of ratepayers money being spent on this I find it unacceptable that spikes like this cannot be investigated, identified and dealt to.
