House fire on Karekare Road

0 Comments 08 April 2016

Nasty house fire on Karekare Road.

This was an historic bach: one of the oldest in the  Karekare valley built from sawn mill timber and split logs

Karekare FireNo residents were home at the time but sadly three dogs perished in the house. Fire crews from Piha, Glen Eden and Henderson were quickly on the scene and took over from some awesome neighbours who were fighting the fire with garden hoses.

The firefighters pumped water from a nearby stream and along with the house, gave priority to protecting surrounding native bush from the flames and swiftly got the fire under control.

Big shout out to all the fire crews who attended the incident, paid and volunteer, operational support staff, and especially the neighbours who not only alerted the authorities but got stuck in to try and control the fire. Legends! Brian Vonlanthen  Karekare Road – 7th April 2016
