How the West was Won

Tim Shadbolt and Pita TureiTim Shadbolt, Pita Turei, Local Kapahaka and Dam Native afternoon in Piha

This event was sold out before it even started and I’m not surprised.  The Piha Bowler was packed and people were standing outside.

WestWon03aThanks heaps to Sooz Fougere Hardie for arranging this wonderful afternoon with Tim Shadbolt and Pita Turei.

I just love what the 30+ are giving to the Piha Community.  Thank you – thank you – thank you.

How the West was Won Piha

The tales of the West from Tim and Pita were interesting, funny, off-beat and very entertaining.

Great to hear some history and stories from Maori perspective.

Below: Photos tell the story

Former Mayor of West Auckland, Tim had me in hysterics.  We heard more about Invercargill than Waitakere but never mind.  He could talk about anything and entertain a crowd.

Pita Turei

Pita Turei is a great story-teller.  He connected well and, on his own count, not too many fell asleep.

He did incredibly well considering  he’d helped Mark Mitchinson celebrate his 50th the previous night along with many others.

WestWon05aAnna and her parents having a huge laugh at another hilarious ‘something’ Tim said.

Probably the story when he was fined or arrested for distributing Jelly Beans in Auckland without a permit.  It’s true!

Or maybe when Council passed a by-law to stop a tow bar being put on the Mayoral car after Tim said he’d tow his concrete mixer with it if he was elected.

Dam NativeDam Native gave us some great entertainment.

I was particularly moved at his song ‘Grateful’.  Wow !

Pita Turei and Tim Shadbolt Sooz:  May you and your family live for a long time in Piha and keep these events coming.  It was clear from all feedback that you have started to fill a void.  Thanks
