A name change changes nothing

A name change changes nothing . . . .

Today the rumour that Greg Presland, Waitakere Ranges Local Board, was intending to stand for Council in the 2016 election was confirmed.

I’d like a matter tidied up before the election :  The accounts for the old Titirangi Ratepayers & Residents Assn Inc, now Titirangi Residents and Ratepayers Group, really should be published so those that donated money to appeal Rotondo’s consent know where their money went . . . .   read on:

The following ‘press release by Mels Barton was published on 25th of November 2015
You can write a press release but you can’t change historical facts.

Titirangi Ratepayers and Residents AppealIn 2010 the Titirangi R & R, Mels Barton and Greg Presland,  ‘appealed for donations‘  toward the cost of appealing Council’s consent for the Rotondo Development, corner of Titirangi and South Titirangi Road,  in the Environment Court.

  1. The appeal was lost.
  2. The Titirangi Ratepayer and Residents Assn Inc. then ceased publishing their financials with the Registrar of Incorporated Societies.
  3. For this reason they had their Incorporated Society revoked in 2014.

Greg PreslandMels Barton blames a past ‘fill-in treasurer who has since left the area’ for not publishing or submitting their financials but . . . .  Greg Presland, left, is listed as the Treasurer in the Waitakere Ranges Local Board Minutes  Feb 2013 & 2014 and Acting Chair Feb 2012  so let’s leave the ‘acting treasurer who has since left, whoever it was, out of this.

These two call Waitakere folk to account regularly – I think it’s their turn!

  • It is the Committee’s responsibility to make sure accounts are ready, presented to the membership and lodged with The Registrar of Incorporated Societies.  Why are you blaming a treasurer?
  • Records show that Greg Presland,  was either Acting Chair, Treasurer or on the Titirangi Ratepayers & Residents Assn Inc. committee during this period as were you Mels.
  • You both went public ‘appealing’ for donations : you should be accountable for publishing what you did with them.
  • Changing the name of the Titirangi R&R and moving on doesn’t cut the mustard.
So Greg Presland, and Mels Barton, could we see your accounts made public?    That would tidy a couple of things up before next years Auckland Council Election.

Thanks Bobby. Transparency International calls journalists, voters and whistleblowers the guardians of accountability. The Treasure named on the last Titirangi R&R accounts ran for the local licensing trust in 2010 on their Future West ticket, the year after the accounts were published, so was still in the area. Regardless, Mels and Greg continued on the executive and are responsible for the accounts. Titirangi R&R needs to publish their documents – finances and committee office holders. Simple. This is just the tip of the iceberg in our area.

$6,048 was spent by this outfit fighting the Rotondo Appeal in the Environment Court and they lost. Waste
